You probably haven’t heard of Turner guitars. They’re a very small company who work with Chinese factories to create quality instruments to designs laid down by master luthier Terry Pack. They’re also local as the company was taken over in 2022 by Nye who owns Finale Guitar! They’re not a name you’ll see in many guitar shops as they distribute independently to a select group of small dealers, so we’re extremely proud to carry their guitars in stock. They’re absolutely fantastic instruments and obscenely good value!
This Jumbo really is the jewel in the crown of the Turner lineup. With rosewood back and sides, a solid spruce top and a huge jumbo body (upper bout 31cm, lower bout 43.5cm) it absolutely sings. The mahogany neck has a rosewood fretboard and bone nut and saddle which combine for excellent sound transfer and near-endless sustain. It’s got 22 jumbo frets and a comfortable C neck profile so its very comfortable under the hands. It’s also had a professional setup from our in-house guitar technician Steve so the action is nice and low all the way up the fretboard. Cosmetically this guitar is beautifully appointed. The gold tuners are tastefully finished with textured wooden pegs. The sound hole has an abalone rosette decoration which really stands out against the gloss finish spruce top and simple bindings. The satin finish of the back and sides really brings out the grain of the rosewood and allows optimal resonance which really comes out in the sound. It’s also got a Fishman Isys+ undersaddle pickup and pre-amp on board (with volume control, built in tuner, 2 band EQ and phase switch) which does a great job of capturing the huge tone of this guitar and reproducing it for amplification or recording.
If you’re a big strummer and want a HUGE, resonant tone with loads of bass, a rich, warm lower mid section, near endless sustain and a bright, clear top end then we don’t think you’ll find a better sounding or playing new guitar without adding at least one 0 to the end of the price tag. It also sounds great for fingerpicking (which is made easier by the 45mm nut), with a huge dynamic range available. This really is an absurdly enjoyable guitar to play and we can’t recommend highly enough that you call in to the shop between 10-5 any day except Wednesday (includes Sunday) and play it!
