Hand made in Sheffield by master luthier Matt Loxley and based on John Birch’s famous replica of Brian May’s original Red Special, this gorgeous electric guitar is one of a kind and utterly unforgettable. The body is made from flamed spalted sycamore (with thin poly goldburst finish on the back) as is the neck. In keeping with Brian’s original Red Special, the neck is very chunky with an ebony fretboard, BWBW ABS binding, mother of pearl inlays, and 24 stainless steel medium jumbo frets. The hardware is all top tier and as close as possible to the original spec, with a bone nut and saddle, custom made Birch bridge and Schaller tuners. Brian’s tone is legendary and a big part of that came from his use of Burns Trisonic pickups (as well as a treble booster and modified Vox AC30 of course!). On this lovingly replicated Red Special, Matt has chosen Yonderbosk Sovereign hand wound pickups which are expertly modelled on the original 60s Trisonics and each have individual on/off and phase switches for a huge range of tonal options. There are also simple, effective master volume and tone controls for quick sound shaping.
This instrument has been locally hand crafted and offers Brian May’s classic sound and style in a package that simply oozes style and class. It’s like a dream to play (once you get used to the neck profile!) and really has to be heard in action to be fully appreciated so please do call in for a test drive between 10-5 any day except Wednesday, or checkout now to arrange insured postage anywhere in the UK.
