The Ortega Hydra is a unique and innovative ukulele that features two necks, one with four strings and one with eight. This double-neck design allows you to switch between different sounds and tunings, or even (with a little though and some clever retuning!) play both necks simultaneously for a rich and full sound. The Hydra is a tenor-sized ukulele, with a body made of ovangkol, a tonewood that produces a warm and balanced tone. The necks are made of mahogany, with walnut fretboards and bridges. The whole ensemble is beautifully finished with an open-pore satin finish that enhances the natural beauty of the wood without dampening its acoustic resonance. The Hydra is also equipped with an active pickup system, with a built-in tuner and a three-way toggle switch that lets you select which neck to amplify, or combine the signals from both. The pickup system delivers a clear and natural sound, ideal for plugging into an amp or a PA system. All in all the Hydra is a versatile and richly creative instrument that will inspire you to explore new musical possibilities.
This unusual ukulele also comes with a deluxe, semi-rigid gig bag to protect it from dust, dirt, and damage. The gig bag is made of durable fabric, with thick padding and soft lining. It has a rectangular shape that fits both necks comfortably, with a zipper closure and a handle for easy carrying. The gig bag also has two pockets, one on the front and one on the back, where you can store your accessories, such as picks, strings, tuner, or cables.
Both the uke and accompanying bag are in excellent, near mint condition and show only very minor signs of previous use. The Hydra sounds truly superb and is a lot of fun to play… Plus it’ll make all your friends really jealous!
