The ukulele is a fantastic gateway to the world of music. It is one of the easier instruments to learn and can be one of the most affordable to buy. Sadly there are also lots of very poor quality ukuleles for sale online and it can be very difficult for beginners to find good quality, playable instruments. For this reason I have spent the last few years testing various makes of beginners’ and improvers’ instruments and accessories and am proud to these affordable, well made ukuleles! I hope that this will enable more talented people without huge piles of spare cash at their disposal to enjoy learning this fun, portable and rewarding instrument.
These blue burst soprano ukuleles are made by Octopus, a well-established manufacturer who build reliable, quality instruments at affordable prices. They are well built with pine bodies, walnut fretboards and bridges and Aquila Nylgut strings. These combine for a loud, bright tone and easy playability. The frets are really well finished (Got a Uke, a well known ukulele reviewer, was absolutely blown away by their quality- give his review a Google to see what I mean) and the geared machine head tuners are of a high standard meaning that unlike many cheap instruments, these hold their tuning really well. All in all these are superb, easy to play instruments for beginner or intermediate ukulele enthusiasts and offer the absolute best value you will find at this price point.
Please note that we sell both left and right handed variants most ukulele models. Octopus do not actually make left handed models- we modify them manually in store. On the left handed models the strings are flipped the other way up, so that left handed players can read chord diagrams with the same orientation as right handed ones. We also widen the slots in the nut so that the strings sit at the correct height when inverted. Flipping the strings takes a while, hence why the left handed models are slightly dearer. The more recent incarnations of this model have green boxes instead of blue.
