This tenor ukulele is beautifully constructed from solid acacia, a beautifully open sounding tonewood, with a similar richness to mahogany but with a brighter, clearer top end. It has a warm, resonant tone but with a bright top end which really cuts through well in a group. It also looks beautiful with stylish decorations including vintage style crosshatched purfling and pearloid fretboard inlays. The mahogany neck is completed with a walnut fretboard and well finished frets. The bridge is also walnut, with an ebony saddle complete with Shadow under-saddle piezo pickup. We love the tone of Shadow pickups, which give full, warm mids and a pleasantly mellow electro-acoustic sound! The pre-amp also has volume and tone controls and runs on a single CR3032 watch battery.
Cosmetically this superb sounding ukulele is in excellent condition apart from some very light scratches as you’d expect on a second hand instrument. As the wood has cured, the two halves of the back have contracted very slightly which produces a very slight separation, visible as a tiny crack of around 2″ in length. This can be seen in the pictures and is not degenerative – the halves have pulled apart very slightly as the wood has dried but this process is now complete. This is a cosmetic defect but we understand that it can be off-putting and so have reflected this in the bargain price.
