John Fahey was an American fingerstyle guitarist (and later painter) who lived from 1939 to 2001. He is widely credited as being one of the most influential guitarists of all time. His style incorporated elements from blues, folk and later Indian, Portuguese and Brazilian music. Sligo River Blues appeared on John Fahey’s first album, Blind Joe Death. One side of the record was credited to a mythical bluesman called Blind Joe Death, and the other side to Fahey himself. Only 100 copies were originally pressed, but this tiny handful of records still managed to catapult Fahey to global guitar super-stardom.
