We are proud to present the work of local artist Marianna Keen who creates beautiful portraits of influential musicians. Here’s what she has to say about her work:
“My art reflects my passions for the natural environment and for music. I tend to observe the character of my subjects, the emotions they instill in me, and then begin to put this down on canvas. Whether the subject is a raging river or a captivating musician, it’s not just its form that inspires me, but the unique sensations I might feel in their presence or the sentiments they arouse.
My nature paintings often focus on light or on rippling water, with inspiration having come from a walk through a woodland or a dip in an icy lake. As a keen climber, trail runner and wild swimmer, outdoor adventure is often part of the journey towards a piece of artwork.
“When painting a musician portrait, I look at patterns, colours or images that help to represent them as individuals, as well as paint marks that portray the genre, tempo and feel of their music, and the way they play their instrument.
I’ve also begun blending music and nature in my artwork, such as in my piece “Life” which features two nude women dancing gracefully through a sunlit tree tunnel.”
This glossy print is 40x30cm in a black frame with white internal edging. The frame is 53x44cm.
