This exquisitely hand crafted acoustic guitar was made in the UK by Roger Bucknall and his team of Lake District luthiers way back in 1979! Roger is an all round nice guy who is always happy to make time to talk about his guitars so we’d like to thank him for his help in identifying this one. With it’s Indian Rosewood sides, beautiful 3 piece back and master grade Englemann Spruce top this stunning acoustic has a well balanced, full tone with a deliciously rich mid range. We love the feel of the one piece Honduran Mahogany neck which has a delightfully vintage V profile, as well as an ebony fingerboard and bridge and attractive pearl position markers. The neck doesn’t have a truss rod but it’s testament to the exquisite build quality that the action is still comfortable after over 40 years of playing. At the headstock you’ll find reliable and accurate Gotoh tuners and we’ve restrung this beautiful instrument with Ernie Ball Earthwood medium lights (12-54) for a perfect balance of tone and playability.
This guitar is in excellent condition despite its age, with no bracing, neck joint or other structural issues. There is a very minor crack to the left of the bridge which shows no signs of deterioration at present but may need reinforcing a few years down the line (see closeup). There are also plenty of dings to the body and neck as you can see in the photographs but nothing major enough to affect tone or playability. The frets have obviously been filed and recrowned multiple times but still have a few years’ life in them. There is some wear, particularly on the B string at the first three frets as shown in the last few pictures. However, to find a Fylde Falstaff of this age which is repair free and plays so nicely is pretty rare and when you hear how good this guitar sounds we’re sure that you’ll fall in love with it just as we have!
