Cort was originally founded in 1973 by Jung-gyu Park as an importer of pianos. They quickly expanded into manufacturing electric guitars and very quickly made a name for themselves as one of the best factories around, producing instruments for Ibanez, ESP, Schecter, G&L, PRS SE and many other well established brands. In 1982, Cort released its first guitars under its own name with innovative designs which weren’t so constrained by legacy as other more established manufacturers. Today, Cort instruments are incredibly good value and offer amazing spec, a whole suite of modern playability enhancements to traditional designs and outstanding build and quality control. Today the Cortek factories (in both Korea and Indonesia) are well known for their social and environmental responsibility as well as producing an incredible range of stupendously good guitars.
This Cort Cutcraft LE Limited Edition is a truly astonishing piece of acoustic guitar engineering. It combines cutting-edge design with traditional craftsmanship and all solid tonewoods for an incredibly user friendly playing experience which lets you focus on expressing yourself, and presents a highly polished version of your sound to your audience! With its 45mm nut, clearly articulated voice and mini monitoring sound hole this guitar is clearly designed for fingerstyle players and really shines for this style in a way that very few others can emulate.
The Cutcraft LE features a solid European spruce top with gorgeous master-grade solid myrtlewood back and sides, giving it a bright and smooth tone with tight, punchy mids and exceptional clarity. The sound port on the side enhances the projection and resonance of the guitar and means that you’ll always be able to hear yourself no matter what environment you’re playing in. Cosmetically this guitar is instantly eye-catching with its “mini jumbo” body shape and attractively jaunty offset shape. The rosette is beautifully decorated with abalone inlays around the pau ferro central band. We love the black headstock with stylish abalone inlays and classy gold hardware and as for the back… Well, just feast your eyes on that shimmering golden myrtlewood!
This guitar also feels really incredible to play. The chamfered body and cutaway bevel are incredibly comfortable for long gigs and give easy access to the upper frets. The mahogany neck has a double-lock joint for stability meaning that you won’t have to worry about changes to the angle over time… This is an instrument that’s designed to be played and loved for many years to come! Last but definitely not least there’s that incredible fanned fret ebony fingerboard. The benefits of fanned frets are many and varied, the most important one being that your intonation will be more accurate at the upper frets. They also mean that the lower pitched strings are on a longer scale length, and therefore more tension, than the higher pitched ones. This in turn means that you will have less tension on the higher strings making them easier to fret and that you can use a thicker gauge string overall to give yourself access to full and fruity sounding drop tunings without having to deal with all that extra tension on the upper strings. If you like DADGAD or open tunings then you’re sure to feel the benefit from this unusual design… Plus it looks incredibly cool!
The Cutcraft LE is equipped with an L.R. Baggs M80 pickup system, which captures the natural sound of the guitar with a combination of a high-fidelity magnetic soundhole pickup and an internal body microphone. This combination lets you take the crystal clear tone of the soundhole pickup and blend in the more human elements like the sound of your fingers moving around the fretboard and the natural reverberation of the body. The pickup system also features a volume control and a battery check indicator so you won’t have to worry about running out of juice mid-gig.
