A short review from Nye:
Since 2003, German brand Bugera have been building absolute monster rock and metal amps with incredible attention to detail, reliable build quality and tones that’ll melt your face off. This 333XL Infinium is an incredibly versatile showcase of their work. Hand-built and hand-wired by Bugera’s expert technicians, this 120-Watt class A/B amplifier head is driven by 4 x 6L6 valves (switched from the stock EL34s), which have been recently upgraded by the previous owner to Ruby Tubes. These offer full, crunchy heavy-rock tones with tight natural tube compression, rich, harmonic overtones and the sweet break-up we all know and love. At the pre-amp stage, the Infinium 333XL adds a modern twist to classic amp designs, using three channels and 4 x 12AX7 valves to handle everything from sweet and warm cleans to tight, punchy and absolutely pant-wettingly distorted high gain tone. There’s also a high-quality digital reverb which is assignable per channel and has a dedicated control this can be activated using the included footswitch, which also allows you to switch channels mid-song. We really love the XL switches on the lead and crunch channels. When depressed these beef up the lower mids for extra snarl when soloing or super doom-y high gain tone. This is helped by the built in analogue noise gate available on the lead channel which lets you get really silly with the gain levels without feedback and hiss problems. Tone can also be easily tweaked by the fully independent 3 band EQs on each channel and presence control for top end tweaks.
As well as their clever pre-amp design, Bugera have also used their proprietary Tube Life Multiplier technology to extend the life of the power valves up to 20 times so you won’t have to worry about tone drop-off as the valves get older or suddenly needing to replace a blown valve mid-gig. This incredible tech also allows you to mix and match any combination of compatible valve types and brands, and monitors performance of each power tube continuously, clearly indicating defective valves to allow for easy replacement. This amp has a great range of inputs and outputs. The effects loop is remotely activated, and the send and return volumes can be tweaked meaning you can also used the loop as a boost function. There’s a line output with dedicated level control, for direct recording or connecting to a front-of-house PA system. The output impedance is switchable between 4,8 and 16 ohms meaning this awesome tube amp head can be paired with virtually any speaker cabinet.
It’s no exaggeration to say that as a closet metal fan this is one of the best sounding and most versatile heavy rock and metal amps that I’ve had the pleasure of playing through. It handles everything from jazzy cleans to djent with real style and clarity. The built in noise gate sounds tight and punchy even on the highest gain settings and the reverb is very pleasant for clean sections. The idea of being able to balance any combination of tubes is an amp enthusiast’s paradise allowing loads of experimentation and tonal possibilities and when you look at its price tag this amp truly is obscenely good.
Cosmetically this amp is in near mint condition but does show some very minor scuffs here and there. All the electrics are working perfectly. Call in and grab it before someone else beats you to it. You won’t regret it! Alternatively you can check out now to arrange affordable postage anywhere in the UK.
