This classic Irish jig is one of the easier arrangements which feature in my latest book, Irish Tunes for Fingerstyle Guitar which is now out! The book contains ten classic Irish folk tunes arranged for fingerstyle guitar and comes with a complete guide to all the shapes used, fingering and music theory along with a short section covering each tune’s origins. You can buy it now in both e-book or paperback formats by clicking here.
This one is one of my favourite jigs, Out On The Ocean. It’s a very relaxing Irish tune in G ionian (G major). It is also sometimes played in A major (famously by Planxty). You can find some interesting discussion of the tune’s history in the comments thread of its page on TheSession.org.
This arrangement is for guitar tuned to drop D. This means that your lowest pitched, or thickest, E string will need to be tuned down a tone giving you the tuning: DADGBE.
My studio, web hosting, wifi connection etc are all expensive, so if you enjoy my arrangement then please consider making a small donation (through PayPal) to help me to continue to make free stuff.
