This is a short post to accompany Folky Fridays #7 in which I’ll be teaching you how to play an Irish jig in D ionian / B aeolian called Connaughtman’s Rambles! This is a very popular Irish session tune and can be played with relative ease using the B aeolian mode shape. Visit this post for downloadable fretboard diagrams for all the modes! We’ll also be covering chord choices for the tune and analysing some of the music theory involved in accompanying this cracking jig.
The live stream will be going out on Friday the 15th of May, from 5:30PM UK time. Tune in here:
You can find free guitar fretboard diagrams for the mode shapes here.
My invention The Amazing Mode Wheel will make your life a lot easier if you’re trying to understand the modes- you can get one here.
I also wrote a book which covers everything you need to become a great backing guitarist- you can get it here.
AND my brand new book which contains fingerstyle arrangements of ten Irish classics is OUT NOW! Get it here.
I use Duncan Cameron’s great fiddle recording of the tune for some of the chord demos- you can listen to it here.
